The hospital is a 107-bed Facility which are, distributed over the different departments, in addition to one-day dialysis beds as well as in:
• Internal Medicine
• surgery (including all specialties)
• Pediatrics and 3 in ICN
• Intensive Care
• obstetrics & Gynecology
• “one-day” chemotherapy beds
• Mental Health Unit
• Endoscopy
There are 11 Medical Departments:
Department of Internal Medicine:
It contains units (Medicine A, Medicine B, & Medicine C ), in addition to Hemodialysis unit the Endoscopy unit and the Chemotherapy unit.
Physicians on full time, part time, and associate basis are present, in addition to consultants and full time residents and interns.
The medical specialties covered are: internal medicine, cardiology, general medicine, geriatrics, hematology/oncology, Gastroenterology, infectious diseases, neurology, Nephrology, endocrinology, dermatology, genetic diseases, family medicine, pneumology, and psychiatrics.
The Chemotherapy Unit:
It provides chemotherapy for patients admitted to the hospital, for those who are hospitalized for one day, and for out patients.
The Hemodialysis Unit:
It covers 16 sessions per day in morning and afternoon shifts. An on-call list for nurses is prepared on a monthly basis to ensure 24hrs care.
The Endoscopy Unit:
Admits both In and Out patients based on a specified schedule. It is equipped with an advanced endoscope that performs gastroscopy, colonoscopy, rectosigmoidoscopy, and deodenoscopy (ERCP) procedures. The exams are done for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
Department of Intensive Care:

It is equipped in accordance with international standards and provides 24 hour medical care. It admits patients for coronary care, post-surgical intensive care and polyvalent intensive care (CVA, …).
Emergency Department:
Head Department: Dr. Husam Ghusn
It consists of the following rooms: surgery & dressing, vital emergency, regular emergency, pediatrics/gynecology, and the observation hall.
It functions with a chairman and residents with the help of a number of specialists at 10 minutes proximity with respect to a monthly duty and on-call list for 24-hrs coverage.
Department of Clinical Laboratory:

The clinical lab at AWH is equipped with the latest equipment, and inter and intra laboratory quality assurance checks are held on a regular basis.
It consists of 4 main entities:
The general lab
The blood bank
The cytogenetic lab
The pathology lab
Medical care is provided by 3 full-time physicians: the Chairman, the Head of Blood Bank, and the Head of Cytogenetic Laboratory, in addition to 2 associate pathologists.
The Laboratory performs a wide range of exams in:
Hematology
Parasitology
Bacteriology
Biochemistry
Endocrinology (TSH, T#, Free T3, Free T4, FSH, Prolactin, LH.)
Immunoserology
Protein electrophoresis
Tumor markers, &
Special tests
The Blood Bank plays an important role in the region in receiving donors, providing blood units to patients in need and in performing special tests, since it is the only blood bank insides to the Red Cross center. It also provides services to other regions and secures emergency cases in all the attraction zone of the hospital.
The cytogenetic Laboratory is the only laboratory of its kind in the region and it functions in prevention and diagnosis of genetic diseases through the different genetic karyotype exams performed.
The department is open Mon to Sat, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to outpatients and on a 24-hour basis for in-patients.
Caryotypes and spermograms are performed upon appointment.
Imaging Department:

Perform the following imaging services: conventional radiology, echography, Doppler Ultrasound, angiography & cardiac catheterization, mammography, bone densitometry, spiral CT scanning, and MRI.
Department of Anesthesia & Resuscitation (Operating Rooms):

It contains 4 operating theaters: Orthopedic room, thoracic surgery room, vascular & general surgery room, general surgery and urology room in addition to a septic room and a recovery room.
Department of Ophthalmology:
Head Department: Dr. Fadi Jurdi
Functions through the Eye Care Center and causes out routine eye examination and minor surgical procedures are done in the Operating Room and patients are hospitalized in the Department of Surgery.
The services provided include: A/B scanning, fluorescein angiography, fundus photography, laser therapy, automated visual fields, cryo therapy…
OPD and Employee Health Unit:

Out patient Consultations include the private clinics, in addition to some procedures as EEG, EKG, stress test, minor surgery, Audiogram, EMG, respiratory function, minor surgery, mappa, holter, in addition to eye tests.
A main on-going project in the hospital is the reorganization of the OPD departments: strategic, local changes, recruitment of new employees, and organization of the work as for the doctors' schedule at OPD & the relation of OPD with other divisions and departments in the hospital.
