The Elderly Care Center (ECC) is a non-profit organization with both social and medical aims. It now provides services to 73 elderly people from Chouf, Beirut, Hasbaya, Aley and Matn. About 130 elderly people have applied to be admitted to the ECC and are still waiting to get a bed. The ECC is divided into 4 divisions according to the sex of the residents and to their physical status
The medical coverage of the center is assured by the director (specialist in Neurology), the resident (general practitioner), a coordinator (specialist in geriatric medicine), and a consultant in psycho geriatrics in addition to non-permanent residents from Hotel Dieu de France Hospital and 4th year students from American University of Beirut.
A group of nurses covers the follow-up of the work and consists of a head nurse, registered nurses and practical nurses. The Elderly Care Center also has a social assistant, a psychologist, a physiotherapist, and a medical secretary. On the schedule of the Elderly Care Center are many scientific and social activities:
The scientific activities include weekly rounds over all residents, participation in Journal-Club, Mortality-Morbidity & other lectures, and organization of conferences related to geriatric medicine.
The social activities involve: monthly picnics, manual work, special games, celebrations in different occasions, and gatherings with social organizations.
Volunteers play a major role through their help in organizing these activities, in addition to providing specific care (dental, barber shop…)
In case of need, the Elderly Care Center works in collaboration with the Hospital for any further medical care to be provided.
