Staying in hospital can be a stressful time for you, your family members and friends. It may mean receiving bad news, adjusting to new circumstances or losing someone or something important. All this can be very emotional and difficult.
AWH has a number of qualified counsellors who can offer counselling to relatives, friends and patients who feel they may benefit from it. Some people may think that wanting to talk to a counsellor might mean that they are not coping well, that they are weak or crazy. It is important to understand that counselling is mainly an opportunity to talk to someone in private, and to get some help and support in managing difficult feelings such as coming to terms with an illness, an operation or death. It can be a very positive step in a very difficult time.
If you would like to meet with one of our counsellors, you can ask any staff member to contact them on your behalf.
AWH Counselling and Psychotherapy Team provides a counselling service to patients and relatives in all wards and departments where counselling is not already provided by other counsellors.
