  Services
1- Out patient clinics: The clinic offers medical care to elders living in the community, is open on Tuesday and Thursday morning of each week.

Specialists in geriatrics will provide comprehensive outpatient care that will deal with medical illnesses, psycho-social needs as well as rehabilitation.

2- Adult Day care unit (30 patients): (under construction) This unit aims at keeping frail elders at home with their families. It will provide daily care (approximately 8 hours) for elders who are unable to stay by themselves at home, while their families are busy working or traveling. Nursing staff will provide those patients with their daily care in addition to leisure time activities and minimal medical care if needed. These elders will return to their families at the end of each day.

3- Acute Care Unit (19 beds): This unit aims at providing acute medical care to elders in need of hospitalization due to acute illness such as pneumonia, strokes, infections and so on. This care is being provided by two geriatricians Dr. Hussam Ghusn (Chairman of geriatric department) and Dr. Amin Wehbe (Staff geriatrician), a team of residents from the American University of Beirut, nursing staff, physical therapist, dietitian and a social worker. The unit offers educationel classes to the patients and family on

  5. Falls
  6. Exercise


4- Rehabilitation Unit (20 beds under construction and the remaining 20 beds in phase II) This unit aims at providing rehabilitation services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy) in addition to medical treatment. These services will be provided by a rehabilitation team consisting of a rehabilitation specialist, geriatrician, physical therapists, occupational and speech therapists. Patients who will benefit from these services include stroke patients, post hip surgery patients, amputees, or any other patient who is in need of strengthening exercises in order to stay fit and functioning in the community.

5- Psycho geriatric Alzheimer’s Unit (56) beds: (28 beds under construction and 28 additional beds for Phase II) This unit aims at improving the elderly mental abilities and psychological status in order that they manage their own care with the least possible help. It also provides medical, nursing, and psychological support for patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other psychological disorders, such as depression. This unit meets the elderly psychological and mental needs, particularly since it provides fenced gardens for the exclusive use of patients.

6- Intermediate Medical Care (30 beds): (20 beds in phase I and 10 beds for Phase II) This unit aims at providing rehabilitation and medical care to elders who have been exposed to diseases that prevent them from returning to their homes upon discharge from the hospital. Geriatricians, physiotherapists, and physicians will be working together to improve the functional status of the patients and to maximize their independence.

7- Long term unit (169 beds) (28 beds are operational, 47 to be available on phase I and 94 for the phase II). This unit aims at preserving and improving the elders’ physical and mental health through day to day medical care by an interdisciplinary team and rehabilitation by a physical and occupational therapist. Patients will be enrolled in exercise programs to maximize their functional independence. They will be encouraged to perform their daily activities as much as possible. The Geriatric team is an interdisciplinary team consisting of a geriatrician, general practitioner, social assistant, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, BS nurses and volunteers.

- The nursing team will provide 24 hour nursing care to these dependent elders, medication, and other services prescribed by their physicians.
- Physiotherapist will be conduct training sessions for patients, working on strengthening their muscles through daily exercises using state of the art machines.
- The social assistant will provide psycho-social support to residents of the center, organizing trips and other activities aimed at improving the psychological well being of these patients.

8- Hospice Unit: (to be constructed) This unit will provide end of life care for elders who suffer from incurable illnesses such as cancer that is not responding to surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation. It provides medical, nursing and psychological care. The treating team will focus on eliminating pain, in addition to providing psychological and religious counseling to the patients and their families.
